Yunnan University partners with NAOC to build astronomy center

Yunnan University (YNU) recently signed a cooperation deal with the National Astronomical Observatories of China (NAOC) to build an astronomy center at YNU.

Zhao Gang, Party secretary of NAOC, Zhao Gang and Hao Jinxin, deputy directors of NAOC, Bai Jinming, director of the Yunnan Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhang Li, vice-president of YNU, and other YNU representatives, attended the signing ceremony on May 31. 

During the ceremony, Zhang delivered a speech in which he welcomed the visiting guests and thanked NAOC and the Yunnan Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences for their long-term support. 

He briefed attendees on YNU’s astronomy program and expressed hope that both sides would strengthen cooperation to help develop the university’s astronomy department. 

Zhao briefed attendees on NAOC’s overall state of affairs and offered suggestions on future cooperation between the two sides. 

Bai commended the establishment of the center and vowed to provide support for YNU. 

Following the ceremony, both parties held an in-depth discussion on a number of relevant issues.
