A delegation led by Ding Zhongli, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), inspected a Yunnan University (YNU) water pollution treatment project in Jinning district, Kunming, capital of Yunnan province, on April 2.
At the site of the research project, Ding listened to a report on the progress of the project delivered by Professor Duan Changqun, who led the research team.
Ding inquired about non-point source pollution in rural areas, as well as the measures they adopted to deal with it.
He approved of the current research being done for its efficiency and applicability in solving water pollution problems in farmlands.
The visit to YNU’s research site was just one part of the delegation’s itinerary. They also went to other places in Kunming and Yuxi to conduct research on the renovation of water courses, the treatment of urban sewage and industrial water pollution, and the protection of water resources.
In 2007, YNU began the National Project to deal with non-point source pollution in Dianchi Lake. After more than 10 years of effort from 160 scholars from the Yunnan Academy of Environmental Sciences, the Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Yunnan University of Agriculture, and the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a set of efficient technical methods have been developed to deal with water pollution.
In August 2018, the project received approval from the national office for water projects and won praise from panel members. Over the past two years, officials from the National People’s Congress, the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, the Central Committee of the Jiusan Society, the Central Committee of the Jiusan Society, and Yunnan provincial authorities have visited the project site over 10 times.
