A total of six documentaries made by Burmese people and students enrolled in Yunnan University’s (YNU) School of Journalism received awards at the second “Silk Road Shoots” International Micro Film Festival in Dehong on April 13.
The documentaries were filmed by students participating in a camp organized by YNU’s School of Journalism and the Myanmar Golden Phoenix, a media organization in Myanmar.
The six short videos were honored with the Shortlist Prize for Films on China-Myanmar Paukphaw Friendship, one of the film festival’s six award categories.
A total of 538 videos were submitted from 16 countries throughout South Asia, Southeast Asia, Europe, and the United States, 87 of which received awards.
The camp organized by YNU and the Myanmar media organization was held in November 2018 in Kunming, capital of Yunnan. Nine Burmese media workers and other volunteers from YNU’s School of Journalism worked together to shoot the six films focusing on various topics, such as Burmese students studying in China, botanic research in Myanmar, and technological development, the flower industry and folk costumes in Yunnan.
The filmmaking program was designed to show Yunnan through the eyes of Burmese people, as well as help Chinese people better understand Myanmar.
