A paleontology discovery by a research team from Yunnan University (YNU) made the cover of Current Biology, a renowned journal affiliated with Cell, on April 1.
The essay on the discovery, entitled “Suspension Feeding Stem-Group Ctenophores and Evolution of the Comb Jelly Body Plan”, explains the origins of ctenophores.
The research team was led by Professor Hou Xianguang of the Yunnan Key Laboratory for Paleontology at YNU. Zhao Yang, who is currently studying in an MD-PhD program, is the primary author of the paper, while his supervisor Cong Peiyun is the correspondence author.
Allison C. Daley and Jonathan B. Antcliffe, both well-known paleontologists from the University of Lausanne in Switzerland, published an article on the YNU finding in Current Biology.
The research received financial support from the National Natural Science Foundation and the Yunnan Department of Science and Technology.
