A Yunnan University (YNU) delegation visited Myanmar to promote cooperation with Myanmar universities, companies, and associations, from March 26 to 30.

The delegation, led by Lin Wenxun, president of the university, visited the Ministry of Education in Myanmar and its affiliated universities, the Myanmar-China Friendship Association in Mandalay, the Fuqing Confucius Institute, China’s consulate general in Mandalay, and a company involved in the China-Myanmar Oil and Gas Pipeline Project.

The visit was meant to enhance cooperation with Myanmar in scientific research and training. 

On March 27, the delegation visited the Myanmar Ministry of Education, where they held a meeting with Myo Thein Gyi, Myanmar’s minister of education, and representatives from six Myanmar universities. 

During the meeting, Lin made five proposals on boosting cooperation with Myanmar, including building a research center for China studies, raising the ecology laboratory jointly built by YNU and Mandalay to a government-level project, enhancing vocational training cooperation between YNU and the Mandalay-based Myanmar-China Friendship Association, improving the training of students and teachers from both sides, and conducting research on digital TV corpus with Yangon Technological University and Mandalay Technological University. 

President Lin extended an invitation to Myo Thein Gyi, hoping to meet with him at the China-Myanmar Workshop on Languages and Culture held by Hanban of China in partnership with YNU. 

On March 28, the YNU delegation visited the Myanmar-China Gas Pipeline Project Co affiliated with China Petroleum Pipeline International Limited Company and held a meeting with Jin Guoqing, the company’s deputy general manager, as well as representatives from the Myanmar-China Gas Pipeline Project Co. 

During the meeting, both parties recognized the significance of the pipeline project and agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding on a variety of issues related to the project.

On March 29, the YNU delegation visited the University of Mandalay and Yadanabon University. At Mandalay University, Lin signed a memorandum of understanding with Thida Win, the university’s president, on building a joint ecology laboratory. Thida Win said that he hoped to cooperate with YNU to build a center on Asia studies. 

During YNU's visit to Yadanabon University, Lin reached an agreement on establishing research, training ties and building up the capacity of the two universities.

On March 30, the YNU delegation attended the opening ceremony for a motorcycle repair training program organized by the China-Myanmar Friendship College of Vocational Technology, and held a meeting with the Mandalay-based Myanmar-China Friendship Association to discuss the development of the college.

During the delegation's visit to China’s consulate general in Mandalay, Lin briefed Wang Zongying, China’s consul-general in Mandalay, on the achievements made during their trip. 

Wang praised YNU's efforts to promote people-to-people exchanges and technical cooperation between China and Myanmar. He vowed that China’s consulate general in Mandalay would provide YNU with all necessary support.
