YNU delegation visits Thailand, discusses new partnership

A delegation consisting of researchers from Yunnan University (YNU) and the Xishaungbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) visited Kasetsart University for an academic exchange program, in Thailand, from Feb 24 to March 2. 

The visit came at the invitation of the Thai university, with delegation members including Zhang Zhiming, vice-dean of YNU’s School of Ecology and Environment and Lin Luxiang, a researcher from the CAS botanical institute. 

During the visit, the delegation held talks with Nikhom Laemsak, dean of the Thai university’s School of Forestry and three other vice-deans to discuss a potential academic partnership.

The YNU members expressed their interest in inviting the Thai side to visit YNU for cultural and academic exchanges.

After the meeting, the YNU delegation also visited the school’s field experimental base and a research station, and was impressed by the station’s comprehensive facilities. 

The Thai side expressed their enthusiasm for arranging a visit to YNU, and the visit duly took place on March 5.

A group of YNU representatives including Li Qingjun, dean of YNU’s School of Ecology and Environment; Zhang Zhiming, vice-dean of the school; Zhou Haiyan, deputy director of the YNU Office of Academic Affairs, and Li Chengjie, lecturer from YNU’s Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, attended the meeting with the Thai guests.

During the meeting, Professor Li highlighted the work of YNU’s School of Ecology and Environment, as well as the progress of YNU’s Double First-rate Program.

At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding for a partnership.
