The School of Law at Yunnan University (YNU) recently organized two delegations to visit Vietnam and India to improve their knowledge of foreign legal systems. 

The delegation to Vietnam was comprised of Doctor Li Yixian and 10 students who were chosen for their academic performance.

Their destination in Vietnam was Hanoi Law University where they learned about local laws on a program lasting from Nov 23 to 30. 

The academic program included lectures on the local legal system, an opportunity to audit a criminal trial at a local court, as well as a visit to the Supreme Judicial Court and the Ministry of Justice. 

They also took part in activities with students at Hanoi Law University, helping YNU students gain a better understanding of local culture. 

The delegation to India was led by Gao Wei, dean of YNU School of Law, with the other members of the delegation including Wang Juan, a judge at Yunnan Provincial Higher People’s Court, Lecturer Ma Biyu, and 10 students with an excellent academic record. 

Their stay in India started on Nov 28 and concluded on Dec 7, with the group visiting Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida for research and study. 

In addition to universities such as OP Jindal Global University and Delhi University, they also visited China’s embassy in India, China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Co Ltd, VIVO and other Chinese companies. 

After visiting more than 10 Chinese companies in India, the delegation came away with a relatively comprehensive understanding of the legal demands placed on Chinese companies in India, as well as the local economy. 

Their research findings will provide useful information for Chinese companies looking to enter the Indian market, as well as guidance for legal practitioners operating in India.
