Top academician gives marine science lecture at YNU

Wu Lixin, academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and vice-president of the Ocean University of China, was invited to deliver a lecture on marine sciences at Yunnan University (YNU)’s serialized Donglu High-level Academic Forum, on Nov 28. 

Starting with an outline of the history of the oceans, Wu shared fives aspects of marine sciences with the attendees, including the relations between the ocean and the climate, the north and south poles, exploration of marine resources, ocean ecology, and marine observation. 

He also talked about the significance of developing marine sciences for national development, as well as the challenges and problems China faces in its marine research. 

Wu expressed his hopes that YNU students would work hard and contribute their share to the development of earth sciences. 

Professor Wu Lixin has long been dedicated to the research of ocean circulation theory, air-sea interaction and inter-decadal climate changes. 

As a chief scientist, he has undertaken various significant research projects approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
