A delegation from the School of Material Sciences and Engineering at Yunnan University (YNU) visited Hebian village in Lincang city, Yunnan province, to support local poverty alleviation efforts, as part of the university’s targeted poverty relief program, on Nov 2.
The delegation was led by Zhang Ronghua, Party secretary of the School of Material Sciences and Engineering at YNU, and Wang Yude, vice-dean of the school.
During their visit, the delegation called on the family of a local resident named Li Yin to learn about their lives. The delegation members helped clean up the rooms and outdoor yard of Li’s home, and donated 1,000 yuan ($144) to help him buy new bedding.
With previous assistance from the local government and YNU, Li moved to a new house and began to raise hogs after taking part in a veterinary training program. This year, he has earned more than 5,000 yuan by planting walnuts and raising cattle and sheep.
During the visit, the delegation also met with the village authorities to discuss future development work in the local area.
