A forum on the application of building information modeling (BIM) technology was held by Yunnan University (YNU) with the support of several companies and associations, on Oct 27.

Nearly 200 attendees from construction companies and universities took part in the forum. Xie Zhiyong, dean of the School of Architecture and Planning at YNU, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the forum.

At the forum, Wang Xianjie, from the School of Architecture and Planning; Zhang Jianping, from Oxbridge College at Kunming University of Science and Technology, and Long Liang, from Guizhou Institute of Technology, shared their findings on the application of BIM in architecture and teaching as well as in training workers.

Representatives from several civil engineering companies in Yunnan also explained how they used BIM technology to operate their businesses.

BIM is a key technology being used to modernize the construction industry and to make it more information-oriented. According to the instructions given by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-rural Development and Yunnan Department of Housing and Urban-rural Development, Yunnan will have applied BIM technology in every part of the civil engineering industry chain, including investigation, design, construction, real estate development, counseling services and management by the end of 2020.
