Association on Belt and Road Initiative formed at YNU

A conference, marking the establishment of an association as part of the China Association of Higher Education (CAHE), was hosted by Yunnan University (YNU) on July 14. The association will focus on research related to the Belt and Road Initiative. 

The conference was attended by Du Yubo, chairman of CAHE; Li Xiaosan, director of the Provincial Organization Department; Kang Kai, vice chairman of CAHE; Sun Weijie, supervisor of CAHE; Li Jiajun, Party secretary of Tianjin University; Yang Lin, Party secretary of YNU; Lin Wenxun, president of YNU, and other representatives from 351 universities across the country.

Li Xiaosan delivered a speech at the conference, and extended his congratulations on the establishment of the association.

In his speech, he praised YNU’s efforts in promoting the development of the Belt and Road Initiative. He also expressed his desire for YNU to bring its role as a think tank into full play and be more engaged in the initiative. 

CAHE Chairman Du stressed the significance of establishing the association at YNU, regarding it as a positive move to serve the national strategy.

He also proposed some suggestions for the new association. Du stressed that the new association should be aware of the direction it will take and the responsibility it shoulders. He also stressed that a well-established system of rules and regulations is necessary for the new association. 

YNU Party Secretary Yang Lin was elected as chairman of the council for the new association, and the position of vice chairman was assumed by representatives from Peking University, Zhejiang University, Fudan University and Sichuan University. 

At an ensuing seminar that was held in the afternoon, scholars were invited to share their opinions on how to promote the development of the Belt and Road Initiative.
