YNU holds forum on life sciences

The School of Life Sciences at Yunnan University (YNU) held the Fuxian Lake Forum on Life Sciences, from April 20 to 23.
A total of 34 representatives from famous universities listed in the National Double First-rate Program attended the seminar, with most of the attendees being deans or vice-deans from the universities’ life sciences departments.
The academics in attendance held an in-depth discussion on current research into life sciences, the direction of future research, training skilled workers, and how to develop the discipline further.
The seminar was chaired over by Professor Yang Chongling, dean of the School of Life Sciences at YNU. At the beginning of the ceremony, YNU President Lin Wenxun delivered a speech, in which he briefed the attendees on the history of YNU, the reforms YNU is undergoing and the difficulties some of the reforms are causing.
He extended his thanks to attendees for their support and welcomed advice from them on developing life sciences at YNU.
Following Lin’s speech, attendees explained the measures they have taken to boost the development of the discipline as well as their achievements.
Feng Xinghua, dean at the School of Life Sciences of Zhejiang University, shared with the attendees some of the university’s ideas about decreasing administrative intervention in scientific research and how to put these ideas into practice. His remarks were met with applause by scholars at the seminar.
