A research project on religious studies at Yunnan University (YNU) was granted support from the National Social Science Fund of China (NSSFC) after the research proposal of the project was recognized at a hearing held on March 31.
Nearly 30 experts in the field of religious studies from universities, research institutions and Yunnan Christian Association gathered at the seminar to hear and examine the report on the ongoing project led by YNU Professor Gao Zhiying, who has long been dedicated to the study of national relations, religious culture in ethnic groups and issues related to cross-border ethnic groups.
Few projects on religious studies win support from NSSFC. Therefore, YNU has attached great significance to the project, marking the major progress the university has made in the field of religious studies.
The panel members agreed on the significance of the project, authorizing it to receive research resources. They also shared their opinions on how to better manage the project from various perspectives.
The attendees at the hearing also conveyed great expectations on the development of YNU’s discipline of ethnology, which was elevated to an A plus-level discipline by the Ministry of Education last year.
Over the past year, six projects in the field of social sciences at YNU have managed to win support from the national-level fund.
