Yunnan University (YNU)’s research findings have received national recognition in making it onto the list of China’s top 10 paleontology achievements in 2017, according to an announcement made by the Paleontological Society of China (PSC), on Feb 8.

The research was conducted by YNU in partnership with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Beijing Natural History Museum, Northwest University and China University of Geosciences.

The study focuses on the complicated structure of boreholes by beetle borers in the late Permian period. The research reveals the trophic behaviors of beetle borers and how their eating patterns have changed over time.

Led by Feng Zhuo, a researcher at the Institute of Earth System Science of YNU, results of the research was published in Nature Communications, on Sep 15, 2017.

This has been the second year that PSC has landed a spot on the top 10 paleontology achievements list.

In 2016, two research findings by YNU made it onto the list, making YNU the only university in the nation to have done so for two consecutive years.

On Feb 1, another paleontology finding on the gnathobasic protopodite in euarthropods by YNU was published in Nature Communications, demonstrating how YNU has become an increasingly influential university on paleontology in the world.
