On behalf of leaders at Yunnan University (YNU), five staff members at the Poverty Relief Office of YNU visited Hebian village in Fengqing county, an impoverished area in South China’s Yunnan province, from Jan 30 to Feb 2.
The five representatives organized a meeting, attended by local village officials and YNU poverty relief team members who stayed in the village to support efforts in local poverty alleviation.
The representative chairing the meeting conveyed his New Year wishes to the attendees, and made positive comments on their achievements in battling against poverty made over the past year.
He went on to express his expectations towards the poverty relief team and how he hopes the team will achieve even more in the New Year by fully utilizing the resources of the village.
During the meeting, both the leader of the poverty alleviation team and the top village official delivered reports on the current standing of the village, and attendees shared their suggestions on possible directions how to improve underdeveloped areas.
After the meeting, attendees visited low-income residents, bearing subsidies and New Year gifts.
When informed of the news that a local resident named Chen Shaobin would be getting married in a few days, the representatives all sent their best wishes to him and encouraged him to work hard for a better life.
The representatives also paid a visit to the local clinic to evaluate the state of medical care in the village, and inspect the procedure of the remote medical system developed by YNU to provide medical care for the village.
The research team working on the remote medical system has collected the data of all 782 residents in the village, and can offer remote medical advice to villagers.
