Yunnan University held a meeting to discuss building a joint laboratory in partnership with Mandalay University, from Jan 8 to 12.
The act was a response to the keynote speech made by President Xi at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in 2017, in which he called for the building of joint laboratories with countries along the Belt and Road.
Attending the meeting were representatives from national and provincial technology authorities, China’s mobile phone giant Huawei and faculty members at MU and YNU.
YNU Party Secretary Yang Lin and YNU President Lin Wenxun vowed to seize the opportunity to promote cooperation with countries along the Belt and Road in various fields including education, scientific research and people-to-people exchanges when they met with representatives from technology authorities.
U Soe Paing, consul-general of Myanmar’s consulate in Kunming, capital of Yunnan province, commented that the joint laboratory was to further the common interest of people in both countries and vowed to provide necessary support to the application and construction of the project.
Huawei representative Zhang Chi also said that the company would contribute its share to the Belt and Road Initiative by offering support to the application and construction of the project.
On Jan 9, representatives at the departments of animals, geology, botany, chemistry and physics of MU held a discussion with representatives at YNU on issues related to the project.
