A research team led by Chen Jing, a professor at Yunnan University (YNU) and member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), was recognized for being a “Huang Danian-like team”, according to a recent list revealed by the Ministry of Education.

Professor Huang Danian was a famous geophysicist at Jilin University. He was the chief scientist on various national projects such as manufacturing equipment for deep exploration and aerospace detection.

His dedication to science has advanced China’s progress in geophysics. As an overseas returnee, he was renowned as a patriotic scientist.

In January 2017, Huang died at the age of 58. To honor his outstanding contribution to China’s scientific development, the national education authority designed a title –– “Huang Danian-like team” –– to award research teams that make an extraordinary contribution to China’s scientific development.

Professor Chen Jin is a well-known scientist in the metallurgy of precious metals. Over many years he has dedicated himself to scientific research. Through hard work, his research team managed to solve the arsenic pollution problem in Yangzonghai Lake, a plateau lake in Yunnan province.

His team has published several articles in notable journals such as Nature Communications. Their research has won many provincial-level awards and played an important role in helping YNU’s chemistry research rank in the top 1 percent of the world.

Since the activity was initiated nationally, YNU has recommended 20 research teams, four of which were honored as “Huang Danian-like research teams” by the university. One other team was recognized by the provincial education authority.
