Lin Wenxun, president of Yunnan University, made a keynote speech where he suggested establishment of a China-South and Southeast Asian Universities Association. He hoped that the association would help enhance mutual understanding, promote regional economic and social development, and contribute to the establishment of the community of common destiny.

Officials addressing the opening ceremony included Lakshman Dissanayake, president of the University of Colombo, Choakchai Metheetrairut, vice-president of the University of Mahidol in Thailand, and Chintamani Mahapatra, vice-chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University. 

Zhang Li, member of the Standing Committee of Yunnan University Party Committee and vice-president, presided over the meeting.
