Grants of Western Development Student Aid Program
Purpose
The grants of the Western Development Student Aid Program are intended to enable students to overcome difficulties and concentrate on their studies. The grants are also intended to foster students' patriotism, collectivism and sense of responsibility and to cultivate talents for the development of Western China.
Selection Scope
Undergraduates with financial difficulties from 12 western provinces (or autonomous regions and municipalities) and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps admitted to the provincial key universities can apply for grants under the program.
Eligibility
1. Applicants should be full-time undergraduates from 12 western provinces (or autonomous regions and municipalities) involved in development of Western China.
2. Applicants should have obtained good academic results and have not failed any examinations.
3. Applicants should be of good moral character and abide by the rules and regulations of the university. Applicants should never be subject to criticism or punishment by the program for violating the school's discipline and rules.
4. Applicants should truly have financial difficulties and lack ability to pay school tuition and minimum living expenses.
5. Applicants who are children of disaster-affected families, laid-off workers and ethnic groups should be prioritized.

Grant Amounts
Grant-aided students may be funded with 20,000 yuan ($3,018) allocated in four successive school years (5,000 yuan per year) to complete their studies. Students also receive tuition waivers according to their school performance and comprehensive quality evaluation score ranking since 2004.
