School of Marxism
History
Founded in the 1950s, the School of Marxism in Yunnan University was initially known as the Politics Teaching and Research Group; later the name was changed to the Marxism-Leninism Teaching and Research Group. In the 1990s, the group was renamed the Marxism-Leninism Teaching and Research Department. In 1999, the department merged with the Department of Political Science to become the School of Public Administration. In 2003, the Marxism-Leninism Teaching and Research Department was separated from the School of Public Administration and became an independent secondary institution directly under the university's management.
In April 2008, the department was renamed the Marxist Research Institute (an independent secondary institution). In October 2013, the Marxist Research Institute was renamed the School of Marxism.
Goals
In light of the university's intention to become a regional high-level university and double first-class university, the School of Marxism is determined to strengthen the construction of scientific disciplines and talent teams, constantly improving the teaching level of scientific research and ideological and political theory and striving to be one of the national key Marxism academies.
Majors
Degree authorization has been granted for nine graduate majors in the area of Marxist theory, scientific socialism and the international communist movement, Marxist nationalism theory and policy, the history of the Communist Party of China and Party building.
Degree authorization has been granted for doctoral programs in ideological and political education, Marxist nationalism theory and policy, and scientific socialism and the international communist movement.
The school also has a post-doctoral research station for Marxist Theory.
The School of Marxism is the only academy in Yunnan province with doctoral degree authorization in Marxist theory secondary disciplines and a post-doctoral research station.
Faculty
The school has 35 in-service teaching staffs, which include three teaching assistants, and 32 full-time teachers (three professors, nine associate professors, and 16 lecturers).
In addition, the school retains a group of well-known scholars and experts to be members of its academic committee, research supervisors, part-time professors and professor emeriti from inside and outside the province.
