History

Yunnan University's School of Medicine was founded in 1937. In 1956, it separated from Yunnan University and became the independent Kunming Medical College (now Kunming Medical University). In November 2011, it was formally reconstructed as the School of Medicine at Yunnan University.


Goals

The School of Medicine intends to make an ever-greater contribution to discipline sophistication at Yunnan University, promoting local economic and social development.


Education and Research

The school developed from a small medical department to a larger institution teaching anatomy, physiology and pharmacology, pathology, internal medicine (including radiology), surgery (including gynecology and obstetrics), and public health.

It has conducted many important research projects such as Investigation of vitamin deficiency death in Gejiu miners, Efficacy of Sulfaide in the treatment of meningitis, and Study on the basic metabolism of cancer, and carried out surgery of exceptional difficulty.

Internationalization

The School of Medicine has successfully undertaken several projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC):

1. Genetic study of three genes ADRB2, C10QTL1 and C10QTL4 relating to hypertensive diseases from animal models to humans (30911120481). Partner: University of Montreal, 2010-2012.

2. Array method study of the genes associated with schizophrenia on glutamate neurotransmitter systems (30740420553). Partner: National Institute of Mental Health of NIH, 2008-2010.

3. The effects of FMO3 genetic differences between three typical Chinese and Korean populations on the metabolism of ranitidine (30411140556). Partner: Inha University, 2004-2005.

4. Y-DNA genetic diversity analysis of eight groups of people from China and Thailand (30160037). Partner: Chiang Mai University, 2002-2004.
