Spatial economist Masahisa Fujita lectures at YNU
The world renowned spatial economist Masahisa Fujita and Professor Zhao Wei of Zhejiang University were invited to give lectures on Oct 17 at the School of Economics, Yunnan University.
Professor Masahisa explained the fundamental assumptions and analytic logic of spatial economics in a lecture themed "Introduction to Spatial Economics-with a simulation analysis of Belt and Road Initiative", comprising of six parts including an introduction to spatial economics, basic methods in spatial economics, basic models in spatial economics, the impact of trade cost reduction, the application of spatial economics in calculating the Belt and Road Initiative's economic effect as well as the boundary and future development of spatial economics.
Themed "Promoting Globalization and Diversity in the 21st century-the role of Belt and Road Initiative", the other lecture given by Professor Masahisa analyzed the influence of Belt and Road Initiative in globalization and regional integration.
Professor Zhao Wei taught students how to select topics in economics research and outlined the generating process of scientific thought, taking the Sino-Japanese competition in gaining more influence on the ASEAN countries during the integration of East Asia as an example.
Students benefited a lot from the lesson on spatial economics research frontiers and academic writing.
