The 150,000-ton vessel MAERSK ANTARES docked at the berth of the Songyu Container Terminal on Jan 3, bringing with it approximately 7,500 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of cargo, including apparel, footwear, electronics, home goods, and sporting equipment.
The Songyu Container Terminal is the main operational area in Xiamen Port that serves super-sized vessels. It handled 222 vessels weighing 150,000 tons or more in 2023, including 107 vessels that have a tonnage of 200,000 tons.
On New Year's Day, the terminal welcomed its first 200,000-ton container vessel of the year. The MAERSK ANTARES is the fourth vessel weighing 150,000 tons or more to visit the Songyu Terminal this year.
During the three-day New Year holiday, the total operation volume at the Songyu Terminal reached approximately 15,000 TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 41 percent.
As of Jan 3, a total of five mainline vessels and six feeder vessels carrying 21,000 TEUs had been handled.
Since the start of the New Year holiday, the Xiamen Container Terminal Group has handled a total of 218 calls from container vessels with a container throughput of 152,000 TEUs, a year-on-year growth of 4.35 percent.
The Haitian Terminal has handled 101 vessels with a throughput of 44,000 TEUs, a 7 percent increase compared to the previous year. The Xinhaida Terminal has handled 31 vessels with a throughput of more than 25,000 TEUs, an approximate 18.4 percent increase compared to the previous year.
