The final of the sixth China Xiamen Overseas Entrepreneurship Competition (North America division) was held recently in the city of Xiamen in Fujian province.

The competition showcased innovative projects in various fields, including zero-carbon power generation technology and unmanned logistics solutions.

The competition, which lasted for more than three months, attracted a total of 125 projects. A total of 32 projects entered the final of the North America division, covering such sectors as digital information, artificial intelligence and innovative drugs.

After intense competition in the final, Cui Mengyan's new type of carbon capture industrial environmental treatment technology claimed the first prize. Gao Maolin's automotive lightweight explosion-proof transparent PC composite materials and innovative applications and Liu Changnian's phase I clinical trial and industrialization of a targeted new drug for lymphoma treatment won the second prizes. Diao Zhifeng's self-developed and commercialized high integration system-level industry-specific 5G-AIoT intelligent chip, Yang Chao's industrial application of scientific research big data in fault diagnosis scenarios and Zhu Peizhi's personalized 3D printed bioactive artificial bone materials and bone repair products took the third prizes.

"We hope that through this competition, we can deepen cooperation and exchanges with leading companies in relevant industries in Xiamen and promote the landing and rooting of projects in Xiamen," said Wang Yilin, co-founder of the project that won the first prize.

Sun Ruibin, manager of the enterprise service department at the entrepreneurship center of the Xiamen Torch Development Zone for High Technology Industries, said that a special team at the center is offering talents matchmaking services.

"We will provide 'one-on-one' solutions for teams intending to come to Xiamen in terms of industry docking, support funds, finance matching, entrepreneurship premises and accommodation support."

Since it was established in 2017, the competition has expanded to countries and regions such as North America, the United Kingdom, Singapore and Russia, attracting more than 900 projects and cultivating nearly 100 projects under the Talent Xiamen Plan.

Using competitions as a medium to attract talents is just a microcosm of the Xiamen Torch Development Zone for High Technology Industries' continuous optimization of the talent ecosystem and the cultivation of a fertile environment.

Driven by industrial development, the Xiamen Torch Development Zone for High Technology Industries continues to enhance its leading industries such as flat panel displays, software and information services; accelerate new industries such as new energy, semiconductors, and integrated circuits; and provide a great stage for talents.

Since the beginning of this year, the zone has focused on advancing projects such as Zhongneng Ruixin, Xinneng'an Phase 2, CATL Regional Headquarters, Tianyi Cloud, and Migu Metaverse Headquarters. It expects to attract nearly 10,000 professionals from various fields.

The influx of international high-end talents cannot be separated from the provision of warm-hearted services that prioritize people's needs.

The zone has established the Xiamen Overseas and Domestic High-Level Talents Entrepreneurship Service Station and the Xiamen Foreign Talent Service Station, which provide a strong guarantee for the life-convenience for foreign talents, as well as innovation and entrepreneurship.

Since the beginning of this year, the zone has organized six events such as the Spring Tea Talk, International Entrepreneurship Talent Policy Promotion, Science and Technology Talent Project Application, and Legal Compliance of Cross-Border Employment for Enterprises, with more than 200 participants in total.

Currently, the zone has gathered nearly 1,500 foreign talents and 315 experts and professionals from the island of Taiwan.

"In the next step, we will continue to link international resources with the needs of industrial internationalization development, enhance our global talent work, and strive to achieve socialist modernization," said the person in charge of the zone's management committee.
