The Symposium on the Prevention and Resolution of Maritime Distributes along the Maritime Silk Road was recently held in the Maritime Silk Road Central Legal District FTZ Pilot Zone in Xiamen.

The event was hosted by Hong Kong Maritime Arbitration Group and received support from the liaison office of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in Fujian province and the administration of the Maritime Silk Road Central Legal District FTZ Pilot Zone.

The symposium was aimed at promoting the development and utilization of maritime arbitration and mediation services as well as teaching Chinese companies about such topics.

More than 100 business representatives from the shipping, trade, supply chain, and freight forwarding sectors as well as lawyers attended the event.

Fujian is the core area of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, while Hong Kong is a key node in the construction of the Belt and Road, which has led to increasing potential for cooperation between the two regions, said a representative of the Hong Kong liaison office in Fujian.

In fact, Hong Kong and Fujian have maintained a close relationship for a long time. The Hong Kong government set up the liaison office in Fujian in 2012 to promote exchanges between the two sides.

The Maritime Silk Road Central Legal District FTZ Pilot Zone has been actively introducing international commercial arbitration, commercial mediation, and other diverse dispute resolution institutions.

The first representative office of the International Commercial Dispute Prevention and Settlement Organization and the China Maritime Arbitration Commission's Maritime Silk Road Arbitration Center have started operating in the zone, providing comprehensive services for enterprises in dispute prevention, arbitration, and resolution in their "going global" and "bringing in" endeavors.
