The first aircraft dedicated to transporting cross-border e-commerce goods departed Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province for Chicago on June 3.

This freight route is the first between Xiamen and Chicago, and the third cross-border e-commerce air route opened by Xiamen airport this year.

The plan is to operate two flights with a maximum payload of 115 metric tons on this route weekly. The main goods transported include cross-border e-commerce products, machine parts, and automobile accessories. Over 100 flights are expected to be flown on this route over the next 12 months.

Xiamen's cross-border e-commerce sector has been growing steadily in recent years.

"Xiamen has continuously introduced favorable policies for the development of air cargo and created a world-class business environment that has laid a solid foundation for our company to expand and strengthen our business," said Song Kunfeng, the person in charge of Ouhua International Logistics Group in Fujian, the charter carrier for this flight.

Song added that Xiamen's position as an international transportation hub will be further consolidated with the launch of the Xiamen Xiang'an Airport in the future.

In July 2022, Xiamen implemented several measures to further accelerate the high-quality development of cross-border air cargo. The measures include creating new aircraft routes and building an international air cargo hub. Xiamen airport presently has 27 routes for the transportation of cross-border e-commerce goods.
