Xiamen Port recently added 12 fully intelligent gantry cranes to its operations as part of efforts to build a green and smart port, raise trade efficiency, and reduce costs.
The 12 gantry cranes are equipped with the most advanced intelligent control systems in China. They include an automatic crane control system, a target detection system, a trailer guidance system, and an automatic positioning system for both large and small vehicles.
Apart from the tasks of retrieving and releasing containers, which require manual operation for safety reasons, all other tasks such as container stacking and movement within the yard can be completed automatically using the intelligent control system. The stacking efficiency and accuracy afforded by the system is as high as fully manual systems.
Lin Feng, technology manager of Xiamen Container Terminal Group, said the company hopes to achieve a 10 percent increase in overall efficiency with the new equipment.
