Suzhou New District organized a tree planting activity on March 12 to mark the 43rd National Tree Planting Day, local media outlets reported.
Officials from SND, representatives from Japanese companies that are settled in SND, as well as Chinese and Japanese students and teachers attended the activity. They joined hands to plant saplings of cherry blossom trees, aiming to add more green elements to SND and promote Sino-Japanese friendship.
"I'm honored to attend the tree planting activity and I'm confident in developing and investing in SND. I hope to continue to work together with SND and build a better future," said Nobumitsu Fujiwara, president of Suzhou NDK Co, the first Japanese company to settle in SND in January 1994. The company has since increased its investment in the area by six times.
SND has created a friendly and open business environment for Japanese investments and it is now home to 605 Japanese companies.
The district also has a keen emphasis on green development. In 2020, its afforestation rate reached 46 percent, its Shushan village was ranked as a national forest village, and it opened three new sports parks to the public. SND has also been hailed as a demonstration zone in Jiangsu province for green development.
