Suzhou Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Technology (SIBET) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) is the only national institute for research and development of biomedical instruments affiliated to CAS.
SIBET was co-founded by CAS, the Jiangsu provincial government and Suzhou municipal government.
To meet the increasing needs in biomedical products, the institute focused on the basic, strategic, prospective research in advanced biomedical instruments, reagents and biomedical materials. It also strives to stimulate the development of biomedical engineering technology and has established a platform for the innovation and transformation of medical instruments. The institute's main research fields cover medical optics, biomedical diagnostics, and rehabilitation technology.
SIBET has established the State Key Laboratory of Solid State Lighting Research Center of Light for Health, Key Medical Optics Laboratory of Jiangsu Province, Key Biomedical Diagnostic Laboratory of CAS, and nine other key high-tech laboratories of Suzhou city.
By the end of this May, SIBET has a crew of 941 members and has engaged in number of national, provincial and city-level key programs. It gained a total funding for scientific research of 990 million yuan ($142.5 million).
The institute has been actively working on market-driven technological innovation and aims to turn more scientific results into economic benefits. By integrating talent, technology, industry, capital and market, it has successfully incubated 57 high-tech enterprises, attracting a total investment of 260 million yuan.
SIBET is also looking forward to working with both domestic and overseas scientific research institutes, universities, enterprises, medical institutions and talented scientists.
