Suzhou Chinese Orchestra staged a large-scale folk orchestra concert at Jiangsu Center for the Performing Arts in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu province, on June 7.
Under the baton of Chinese conductor Pang Kapang, more than 90 young artists performed works including Return – a song to celebrate the return of Macao to China, Gardens in Four Seasons, which depicts the changing charms of renowned Suzhou gardens over the four seasons, Marching on the Bright Road, and Ganjiang Moye Fantasia.
Co-founded by the Suzhou municipal government and Suzhou New District in December 2017, the Suzhou Chinese Orchestra aims to promote traditional Chinese culture by integrating Chinese folk music into orchestral performances, and reinterpreting and expressing traditional Chinese music through the symphonic format.
The orchestra has staged performances in Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an and more than 10 other countries in the world -- including the United States, Russia, and Germany – and received rave reviews from critics.
A spokesman said the orchestra will put on another folk orchestra concert at the National Center for the Performing Arts of China in Beijing on June 13 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
In the second half of the year, it will embark on an international tour, starting with Japan and South Korea, to promote traditional Chinese music to more music lovers.
