A founding ceremony for Shanxi University's alumni association of the journalism department took place at the university on April 26.
At the event, Zhang Zhanying, head of the alumni association's preparatory group, reported on the planning for the alumni association and introduced the alumni representatives elected to the association's first council.
Weng Xiaomian, former deputy director of the Education, Science, Culture and Public Health Committee of the Shanxi Provincial People's Congress, was elected as the first council chairman of the alumni association of the journalism department.
Weng thanked the university for the cultivation of his alma mater and the alumni for their support and recognition. He also spoke about his education and life experiences.
He said that he will closely focus on the alumni association, extensively contact alumni working in the media industry, carry out alumni activities and promote communication between alumni of the journalism department and the alma mater.
At the same time, Weng said he looks forward to deepening exchanges and cooperation with other alumni associations in Shanxi University, doing a good job in serving alumni and making contributions to help his alma mater achieve the goal of "building a high-level comprehensive research university."

Huang Guitian, president of the university, expressed his gratitude to the alumni who have supported the development of the university.
Huang introduced the alumni to the school's development achievements in terms of campus operations, discipline and professional development, scientific research and platform construction.
He said that the new alumni association is a platform for information and emotional exchanges among alumni of the press, and a link for cooperation and exchange between alumni and the alma mater.
The university's president said he hopes that alumni can give full play to their professional expertise, help promote the university's development achievements and offer suggestions for the 120th anniversary of their alma mater.
