Vice-Minister of Justice Wang Zhenjiang met with John Lee Ka-chiu, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), on Nov 7 to discuss topics of mutual concern.
Wang noted that since last year, the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) and the HKSAR government have talked multiple times about further promoting exchanges and cooperation on the rule of law between the mainland and Hong Kong, and about providing high-quality legal guarantees for the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), with fruitful outcomes.
Wang said that, in the face of new risks and challenges in particular, the MOJ will further engage with Hong Kong's judicial and legal circles on issues such as supporting the region in building itself as a center for international legal and dispute resolution services in the Asia-Pacific region, the cultivation of foreign-related legal talents, and the opening-up of legal services, in a bid to facilitate Hong Kong to better integrate into the overall development of the country.
Lee extended a sincere welcome to the delegation, and expressed gratitude for the MOJ's strong support for the development of Hong Kong and the GBA.
He said he hoped that both sides will work together to address external risks and challenges, further support Hong Kong in becoming a preferred location for dispute resolution services, and leverage the region's advantages in providing arbitration services for Chinese enterprises going global, so as to advance the sustained and stable implementation of "one country, two systems".
