MOJ initiates program for young lawyers practising in western region

A program aimed at selecting young lawyers to practice in China's western region was launched in Yinchuan, the capital of Northwest China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region, on Aug 21.

Vice-Minister of Justice Wang Zhenjiang attended the launch ceremony, during which he presented a flag to the young lawyers participating in the program and delivered a speech. Zhu Tianshu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Ningxia Autonomous Regional Committee and secretary of the Political and Legal Commission of the CPC Ningxia Autonomous Regional Committee, also addressed the launch.

Over the next three years, the program, run by the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) in collaboration with the All China Lawyers Association (ACLA), will select outstanding young lawyers from the eastern and central regions of China to practice in public legal service institutions in the western region. A first batch of almost 300 young lawyers are being dispatched to the west.

The program aims to thoroughly implement the important instructions made by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, on lawyers' work and the guiding principles of the third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, exploring ways to tap into the role of young lawyers in political guidance.

The program is intended as a concrete measure to help young lawyers become qualified professionals who meet the needs of the Party and the people, and support the implementation of the strategy of advancing western development in the new era.

It also of great importance in cultivating a team of young lawyers who are dedicated to the Party and the country, care for the people, and better meet the needs of people in the western region for legal services.

The MOJ called on young lawyers participating in the program to keep the key national interests in mind, serve the overall work of grassroots Party committees and governments, ensure and improve people's wellbeing, and contribute to high-quality development and the rule of law in the western region through their concrete actions.

Additionally, the MOJ urged judicial administrative organs and lawyers' associations at all levels to take effective measures to strengthen support, education, training, daily management, and care for young lawyers so as to create a favorable environment for the implementation of the program.

Representatives from the dispatching areas, receiving areas and young lawyers delivered speeches at the launch. Heads of the relevant departments of the MOJ and the ACLA, those of the justice departments and lawyers' associations at the provincial level and of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, as well as the first batch of young lawyers participating in the program, attended the launch.

Following the ceremony, the MOJ will organize a training session for the young lawyers ahead of their departure.
