On May 13, the 33rd session of the United Nations (UN) Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) kicked off in Vienna, Austria. The meeting was themed on "promoting international cooperation and technical assistance to prevent and combat organized crime, corruption, terrorism in all forms and manifestations and other forms of crime, including in the areas of extradition, mutual legal assistance and asset recovery".

Chinese Vice-Minister of Justice Zhao Changhua led the Chinese delegation to attend the meeting and delivered a speech during the general debate.

In his speech, Zhao briefed on the China-proposed Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative and Global Civilization Initiative and the latest achievements China has made in promoting overall law-based governance and the building of a socialist country under the rule of law, under the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, especially Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law.

He called on the international community to strengthen cooperation to effectively combat various forms of transnational organized crimes and new types of crimes.

China will firmly uphold multilateralism and deepen cooperation with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), other countries and relevant international organizations, he noted.

On the afternoon of that day, Zhao met with Ghada Waly, executive director of the UNODC, expounding on the progress China has made in promoting the rule of law. They exchanged views on deepening exchanges and cooperation between the Ministry of Justice of China and the UNODC in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice.

Li Song, China's permanent representative to the UN and other international organizations in Vienna, also participated in the meeting.
