Shaanxi introduces measures to promote ecological protection

Recently, the justice department of Northwest China's Shaanxi province issued a guideline on promoting ecological protection, in a bid to facilitate a sound ecological environment with high-quality legal services.

The measures highlight the need to promote law-based governance in the field of ecological protection, such as by enhancing administrative legislation and law enforcement, conducting reviews and supervision on standard documents, the handling of administrative reconsideration cases, as well as handling major legal affairs in accordance with the law.

The measures called for greater efforts to improve the legal publicity on ecological protection, such as further enhancing the legal publicity on such laws and regulations as the Environmental Protection Law and the Law on Yellow River Protection.

The measures stressed the need to strengthen the investigation and resolution of disputes in the field through organizing people's mediators to conduct relevant investigations on various disputes and major risks on a regular basis.

Relevant measures should also be taken to carry out judicial forensic work in the field in accordance with the law and to further improve provincial databases of judicial forensic experts, so as to improve the quality and credibility of judicial forensics in environmental pollution, according to the guideline.

Furthermore, the province will actively provide legal aid services on ecological protection. Relying on the province's official public legal service website, 12348, Shaanxi will release relevant laws and regulations in the field and actively guide applicants in protecting their rights in accordance with the law.

Green channels for such legal aid services will also be opened to provide the public with relevant services in a timely manner, according to the measures.
