Vice-Minister of Justice Wang Zhenjiang met with a delegation of the council of the Macao Lawyers Association led by its Chairman Vong Hin Fai, in Beijing on June 29.

They held an in-depth and pragmatic exchange of views on issues of common concern, such as promoting exchanges and cooperation within legal circles between the mainland and Macao.

Wang underlined that the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) has resolutely implemented the "one country, two systems" policy. The ministry has thoroughly implemented the decisions and plans by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China regarding the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), and proactively provided legal guarantees for Macao’s integration into the country's overall development.

In recent years, the MOJ has actively advanced the pilot program that allows lawyers from Hong Kong and Macao to obtain practice qualifications and practice in the mainland's nine cities in the GBA.

The ministry has also supported pilot joint ventures between law firms in the mainland and Macao and strengthened cooperation between the two sides in the fields of mediation and arbitration. A series of policies and measures have also been introduced to facilitate the opening-up of the legal services market, Wang said.

For the next step, the MOJ will further enhance cooperation with judicial and legal circles in Macao and make more contribution to the steady and sustained development of the cause of "one country, two systems" on the legal footing, Wang added.

Vong outlined the development situation of the Macao Lawyers Association in recent years. He expressed appreciation for the MOJ's support for Macao lawyers in helping them integrate into the country’s overall development.

He expressed his commitment to further cultivating patriotism for the country and love for Macao and actively getting involved in the country's efforts to promote the rule of law.
