China's Vice-Minister of Justice Wang Zhenjiang met with a delegation of Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security led by its Deputy Minister General Luong Tam Quang on June 27, 2023. The meeting focused on pragmatic exchanges regarding judicial and law enforcement cooperation between the two countries.

Wang underlined that under the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) of China has stepped up efforts to advance the building of a socialist country on the rule of law footing in an all-round manner.

The China-Vietnam relationship has witnessed sound development since the establishment of diplomatic ties. Leaders of the two countries reached consensuses on a series of important issues at meetings in 2022. The two ministries should enhance exchanges to jointly promote the implementation of the outcomes of the meetings, Wang said.

Noting that judicial and law enforcement cooperation between the two countries has solid political mutual trust and legal foundation, he said that the two countries' legislative and judicial cooperation in such fields as drug control, combating telecom and online fraud, cross-border gambling, human trafficking, and migration management has played an important role in safeguarding the security of the two countries and the region.

Luong said that Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security attaches great importance to cooperation with the MOJ and is ready to further strengthen judicial and law enforcement cooperation with China, in a bid to safeguard regional security.

The two sides agreed that they should fully leverage the functional roles of the two ministries, consolidate the traditional China-Vietnam friendship and enhance political trust, and promote negotiations and signing of a treaty on the transfer of sentenced persons between the two countries.
