During her visit to Berlin, Germany, from June 18 to 20, Minister of Justice He Rong visited and surveyed several institutions, including the Technische Universität Berlin, the German Federal Bar (BRAK) and some Chinese-funded enterprises including the Bank of China Berlin branch.

He Rong underlined that China has made historic achievements in overall law-based governance in recent years. The Ministry of Justice (MOJ) of China has thoroughly implemented Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and intensified efforts to provide support for advancing Chinese modernization on the rule of law footing in an all-round manner.

At a symposium with Geraldine Rauch, president of the Technische Universität Berlin, along with experts and scholars, the minister had an in-depth exchange of views on the role of the rule of law in promoting technological progress, as well as China-Germany exchanges and cooperation in technology and law-based governance.

With the widespread application of new technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence and unmanned driving, she pointed out that the justice departments should make continuous efforts to actively respond to new issues, challenges and trends brought about by technological progress, and proactively study how to provide legal services and guarantees for technological development.

She said she hopes Rauch and attending experts would continue to pay attention to China's development, especially in the areas of China-Germany exchanges and cooperation in science, education and the rule of law, and continue to play a role as a bridge and bond so as to contribute to promoting friendship between China and Germany.

The BRAK has played an important role in China-Germany exchanges and cooperation in the rule of law, she said during a meeting with BRAK President Ulrich Wessels, adding that she hopes the BRAK would contribute more to enhancing understanding and communication between the legal circles of China and Germany.

The minister also visited several Chinese-funded enterprises, including the Bank of China Berlin branch, NIO House Berlin and the Huawei flagship store in Berlin. During these visits, she learned in depth about the technological advancement of Chinese enterprises "going global" and the protection of their overseas rights and interests.

She emphasized that the MOJ will further improve relevant legal systems and the quality and efficiency of legal services in foreign-related fields, so as to provide high-quality legal guarantees for the construction of the Belt and Road.
