Chongqing recently unveiled a five-year plan for becoming a legal service powerhouse in western China.

According to the plan, the city expects its modern legal services to lead the region and be first-rate nationwide by 2025.

As part of the plan, Chongqing aims to have at least seven local law firms with overseas branch offices, bring in at least five prominent overseas law firms, and train at least 50 top talents in foreign-related legal services, as well as at least 200 mid and high-end ones, by 2025.

The city also aspires to become a regional hub in areas ranging from international arbitration to dispute settlement regarding foreign investment.

According to the plan, the city will have 20 law firms with domestic influence and global competitiveness, three nationally-renowned notary offices with over 45 percent of their services being new-type services, six flagship forensic service institutions with strong national influence, and more than five forensic service institutions with key laboratories by 2025.

By 2025, the Chongqing Arbitration Commission will grow into an internationally-reputable institution serving regional needs and bring in one prestigious overseas arbitration institution.
