Vice-Minister of Justice Liu Zhao called for greater efforts to increase rural residents' knowledge about China's Civil Code in Rucheng county, Central China's Hunan province, on May 10.

Liu, also a member of the ministry's Leading Party Members' Group and deputy-director of the National Law Popularization Office, made the remarks while attending the launch ceremony for this year's national demonstration activity of promoting cultural, scientific and health literacy in rural areas in Shazhou village. The event also marked the beginning of a thematic campaign for publicizing the Civil Code in the countryside.

Liu pointed out that the two activities are aimed at supporting the overall implementation of the rural vitalization strategy, promoting the spread of cultural, scientific and technological, and health knowledge in rural areas, and increasing people's awareness of the Code.

Noting that this year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, he also emphasized the need to learn Party history in the course of the two activities.
