Dalian, a port city in Northeast China's Liaoning province, expanded its arbitration committee into an international arbitration court at its sixth election meeting held in late March.

The establishment of the court marks a step further in the city's effort to internationalize and specialize its arbitration business

As a non-profit legal person, the court is responsible for providing pro bono services. It operates under a council-centered governance structure in which powers of decision-making, execution and supervision are independent from and balance each other.

To improve its professional level and internationalization, the court's council is made up of experts in such fields as law, trade and arbitration, some of whom are from Japan, South Korea and Malaysia.
