On Sept 30, three research fellows from the Shanghai-based Academy of Forensic Science arrived in Tibet autonomous region. The cameras and autopsy cases they carried indicated the special mission they shouldered for this journey.

Commissioned by a local public security bureau, the researchers were expected to find the cause of the abnormal death of a local resident. Due to local Tibetan customs regarding the time limit for corpse burial, it was requested that the autopsy be completed by Oct 2, the second day of the 7-day National Day holiday.

After getting through their first night on the plateau with the support of oxygen supply, the researchers completed the autopsy in a specially-built room half way up a mountain the next day, making sure the burial could take place on time.

The autopsy case in Tibet was one of the over 60 identification applications of different types the academy accepted from four provincial-level regions during the National Day holiday. Its experts have been upholding the academy's commitment to safeguarding justice by drawing on their experiences to unfold the truth and provide scientific evidence in every case.
