Beijing's approach to intellectual property-related disputes is to be replicated by the rest of the country, according to a recent circular jointly released by 11 ministerial-level authorities including the Ministry of Finance and the National Intellectual Property Administration.

The core idea of the approach is to build a diversified IP-related dispute mediation mechanism where specialized mediation organizations play a major role in solving such disputes.

Led by the city's authority for IP-related affairs, the mechanism is guided and supported by Beijing's judicial administrative and judiciary authorities.

Currently, Beijing has 14 specialized mediation organizations dealing with IP-related disputes in its10 sophisticated high-tech industries.

By the end of this July, these organizations had accepted a total of 16,000 disputes. The one established by the Beijing Software and Information Service Industry Association, in particular, had accepted 3,499 disputes, over 90 percent of which were settled through efficient and cost-effective mediation.
