Chinese lawyers made positive contributions to epidemic prevention and economic and social development during a month-long campaign jointly launched by the Ministry of Justice and the All China Lawyers Association (ACLA), according to the ministry.

Starting on March 1, the campaign was aimed at encouraging lawyers across the country to fully draw on their legal expertise to bring up proposals surrounding nine major issues including improving the decision-making process of Party committees and governments, improving legislation on public health, preventing and resolving conflicts and disputes, optimizing the business environment for small, medium and micro-sized enterprises, and fueling the critical battle against poverty.

As of March 31, a total of 736 legal proposals from lawyers had been received, focusing on such topics as governments’ emergency management mechanisms, revision of laws on infectious disease prevention and treatment and medical practitioners, the use of lawyer-supported mediation platforms to resolve prominent conflicts and disputes, relief measures for distressed small and medium-sized enterprises and review of the epidemic prevention and control effort from a global perspective.

Deputies of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top Legislature, members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the country's top political advisory body, and experts from the ACLA were invited to sort out and select the proposals.

Constructive proposals will be written into NPC deputies' suggestions or CPPCC members' proposals, or transferred to corresponding authorities, according to the ministry.

The ACLA will also commend the lawyers who raised such proposals.
