Young CAS boffins back Lushunkou’s further development

A signing ceremony for industry-university-research cooperation projects between the Youth Innovation Promotion Association of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Lushunkou in Dalian in Northeast China's Liaoning province, took place on Oct 19, officials announced.

The Youth Innovation Promotion Association of the CAS is an expertise recruiting body. It was established in June 2011 and it is an important part of major CAS's human resources strategy, officials said. And it is an innovative measure for the comprehensive training of young science and technology professionals under the age of 35 by the CAS. By the end of 2018, the number of members of the Youth Innovation Promotion Association had reached 3,640, which now forms the core backbone of CAS young researchers.

At the signing ceremony, representatives from Lushunkou signed cooperation agreements with CAS representatives on thermal energy storage utilization and the development of functional phase-changing energy storage materials.

Agreements were also signed on visual detection and discrimination in intelligent manufacturing and water quality monitoring and early warnings, image acquisition and mechanized fish harvesting.

According to reports, the Youth Innovation Promotion Association of CAS plans to gradually carry out comprehensive cooperation with Lushunkou in the field of science and technology.

It will take advantage of the technical advantages of seven research institutes established by CAS in Shenyang area -- to provide intellectual support for the development of Lushunkou in rail transit, equipment manufacturing, intelligent manufacturing, auto parts, marine health, biomedicines and food processing.

At present, four companies and five projects in Lushunkou have been connected with members of the Youth Innovation Promotion Association of CAS, of which three projects have signed letters of intent contracts.

According to local officials, Lushunkou will strive to promote matchmaking and cooperation of scientific and technological achievements with the technical needs of enterprises.

It will strive to explore and establish a long-term cooperation mechanism -- regarding the members of the Youth Innovation Promotion Association of CAS as local think tanks for scientific and technological innovation -- and build a platform for industry-university-research cooperation.

In addition, while solving technical problems for businesses, the local government will give priority to undertaking and commercializing scientific research achievements of scientists, and guide and encourage experts and companies to jointly carry out technological research.
