Lushunkou in Dalian – in northeastern China's Liaoning province – is moving to further improve its environment in rural areas, according to local officials.

They said that the latest moves are the continuation and extension of initiatives of recent years that were part of the process of implementing the rural revitalization strategy there.

Officials said that at present, Lushunkou is continuing to focus on the construction of eight demonstration villages, formulating the construction and task schedule, as well as set a benchmark for the construction of other villages.

In terms of improving the rural environment, they said that Lushunkou had vigorously ramped up garbage sorting and promoted the establishment of garbage management system and a related management team.

At the same time, the local authorities have strengthened the environmental management of rural river courses. They have also established a long-term mechanism and village rules and regulations, to stop refuse dumping in rivers and ensure they are clean.

In addition, the local government has accelerated renovation of toilets in rural areas.

Officials said the aim is for the remaining toilet renovation tasks to be completed by the end of October, with an increase in the number of eco-friendly toilets in Lushunkou.

Officials said the local government is further promoting the treatment of agricultural production waste. This is to ensure that the recycling of livestock and poultry manure in Lushunkou can reach 75 percent -- and the rate of manure treatment facilities and equipment in large-scale livestock and poultry farms reaches a target of 86 percent.

Moreover, the local government is also boosting the construction of rural water conservation, transportation, roads and other infrastructure.

It is also strengthening repairs and maintenance of rural roads.
