The park was completed on August 6, 2002 beside a quiet and beautiful coastline. Seen from above, the park has the shape of a half-earth with latitude and longitude lines of marble.
In the park's cultural exhibition hall there are many exhibits on display including calligraphy of peace poems by one hundred countries' leaders and their donated artwork.
In May 1998, the World Poet Conference was held in the United States. A park manager was seeking world peace and asked 100 heads of state to write poems on the theme of world peace. Touched by his sincerity, they agreed to do it. Afterward, through the efforts of many parties, the World Poet Conference and the Hong Kong joint commerce agency of China eventually selected Lushunkou of Dalian as the home of the Peace Poems and built the World Peace Park where they are displayed.
The 47 hectare park in Dalian is set beside an area of pollution-free sea. What makes it even more precious is that very few people come to swim; most come to read the poems without knowing the beauty of the beach. So don't forget to bring swimming gear! In Dalian, beaches in summer are full of people and even finding a place to stand may be difficult.
Other attractions in the park include a two-story 1500-meter corridor, two 200-meter sea bridges, and an exquisite global shells exhibition. In the World Peace Cultural Collections Museum, the Peace Scroll by one hundred countries’ ambassadors is on display. The originator, Liu Ansheng, holds a Guinness World Record for collecting the most signatures, writings, and stamps from ambassadors to China. Bronze statues of 96 heads of state stand in front of the 1000-meter World Peace Corridor, another Guinness World Record, this one held by the park. You may find the cultural and historical depth of the park inviting and decide to visit; if you do, don't worry about parking -- the 10,000 sq m parking lot is always available.
