2016 Dalian Lushun Cherry Festival, co-hosted by the Dalian tourism bureau and Lushunkou municipal government, opened in Lushunkou on June 3, 2016, and lasted until July 15.

The festival, centered around celebration of the delicious Lushunkou-produced cherry, integrates agriculture with tourism, culture with trade and leisure with sports, taking various activities such as fruit picking, fishing, mountain climbing and discovering folk customs as the main events. It strives to organize a festival event that combines tourism, ecology and culture together so as to promote the area’s name as a destination for all.

Lushunkou has an extensive history of cherry cultivation and has long been known as the “the land of the Chinese cherry”. With an advantageous geographical location and climate, it is one of the best cherry planting regions in China - even in the world.

The cherries produced in Lushunkou have gained increasing popularity from consumers for their rich nutrition, sweet taste and bright color. It was recently approved as a China Geographical Indication product by the Ministry of Agriculture, the only one winner of such honor in Dalian to date.

Moreover, the Lushunkou cherry is among the Chinese top 100 agricultural products of regional public value. It is also a gold medal winner of Chinese brand-name and quality fruits.

The cherry orchards cover over 50,000 mu (3,333 hectares) in full bloom, displaying more than 70 varieties. At present, there are over 100 high-quality cherry orchards for picking and sightseeing, where the infrastructure and ecological environment are continuously improving in order to provide top-rated services for the visitors.

A series of events, including an opening ceremony, performance, cherry festival promotion and marketing activities, were held during the festival this year. Ten travel routes that include schedules such as cherry picking, scenic spots visiting and hot springs were also organized.

Inquiry and reception stations for cherry picking were set at Lushun South Road, North Road and Middle Road.
