On Nov 7, ahead of the Hefei Science Fiction Writing Competition award ceremony, four well-known Chinese science fiction authors — Yu Kun, Yin Chao, Luo Xu, and Liu Liangjun — visited the Grand Union of Innovation (GUi) for an in-depth discussion on the relationship between science fiction and technological innovation.
At GUi — home to pioneering enterprises in quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and controlled nuclear fusion — the writers experienced firsthand the dynamic power of Hefei's innovation ecosystem.
"Science fiction is not created from nothing; it evolves from actual technological advancements," said Yin, pointing out that breakthroughs in science offer endless inspiration for writers, while sci-fi, in turn, helps connect science and humanity.
Yu added that the recent surge in Chinese sci-fi reflects the nation's growing innovation ability. "Many of yesterday's fantasies have already become today's realities," he said.
Luo was impressed by Hefei's rapid growth and transformation, and she expressed gratitude for the city's support of sci-fi creation.
During the visit, GUiTEK representatives introduced GUi's efforts in promoting technology commercialization, encouraging university-industry collaboration, and supporting high-growth tech startups.

These initiatives impressed the writers by providing them with clear insights into the real-world basis of speculative storytelling.
As Liu observed, Hefei's vitality is reflected not only in its technology but also in its people. "It's a city full of energy and creativity," he said.
As the sci-fi writers summarized, "When imagination and technology merge, they create the power to change the world." The exchange fostered a collaborative dialogue between science fiction and technology enterprises, igniting new synergies among science, innovation, creativity, and culture.
