Within the Shushan Park of the Grand Union of Innovation, Anhui Jiansheng Deze Biomedicine Technology Company is decoding the emotional and cognitive signals of non-human primates to advance neuroscience and drug development.
Founded by a team of neurobiology experts from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), the company integrates artificial intelligence with behavioral neuroscience to interpret primate emotions, which is essential for the early detection of neurological disorders like depression and dementia. Their AI-powered monitoring system analyzes subtle indicators such as posture, facial expression, and movement, enabling automated and precise behavioral assessment.
In the quest to understand complex human diseases, primates like monkeys have become silent heroes. Sharing 96 percent of our genes, monkeys possess similar brain structures and rich emotional and social behaviors. At the company, researchers are combining AI with behavioral science to decode this "monkey language", enabling computers to recognize primate emotions and health conditions. This cross-species translation opens promising new paths for early diagnosis and drug development in human medicine.
Facilitated by GUi's full-spectrum support - from legal and HR services to funding and market access - the startup has rapidly transformed from lab-based research to scalable innovation. With help from GUiTEK Service Platform, they've secured partnerships with pharmaceutical firms and neuroscience labs to apply their platform in preclinical testing and brain-machine interface development.
To address technical challenges, the team developed novel tools, including biologically inspired visual stimuli and a touchscreen learning system based on reinforcement algorithms. These breakthroughs improve training consistency, enhance animal welfare, and deliver high-quality data for neuroscience research.
"GUiTEK supported our market outreach, invited us to key expos, and helped us connect with investors and clients, which greatly boosted our confidence," said Xu Guangwei, the company's founder, "GUi also offered concrete funding and facilitated bank financing to ease our startup's financial challenges."
He added, "GUiTEK organized practical training sessions on business management, project planning, and marketing, helping us grow into well-rounded, innovation-driven entrepreneurs."
Now, empowered by GUi's ecosystem, the company aims to build a global-leading behavioral data platform for large animals to unlock new paths in human health through smart primate modeling.
